Project Overview

Challenge

Delight is an imaginary new company that opened up to serve breakfast and brunch. People often skip morning meals for various reasons such as simply no time. The company wishes to create an application that would allow its users to easily navigate and be able to adjust meals according to their preferences.

The Research

I conducted secondary research to have a deeper understanding of users’ needs and frustrations. Here were the findings:

The Competitions

I further dig into some direct and indirect competitions in the market to explore their strengths and weaknesses.

User personas

After understanding who our users may potential be, I created two personas to help guide our process on tackling the most important problems

User Journey

I created a user journey for the persona, Brian, to see the path he takes to reach their goal of ordering a healthy pick- up meal during his lunch breaks.

User Flow

Mapping out the user flow will help me know what will be important for the design.

Style Guide

I aimed to go with a theme of red and yellow as those colors evoke the tastebud and stimulate the appetite.

Prototype & Test

Usability Testing

I tested the prototype remotely with 4 users to determine the necessary revisions to make the overall experience more perceptive and pleasant. Here are some takeaways:

Before

  • Wanted quicker access to 'Add Cart' button
  • The page was too simple

After

  • Made the button less hidden for quicker access
  • Change the top view for better appeal

Before

  • The cart only provide the description
  • Wanted to see the ingredients

After

  • Added the title of the meal
  • Included the selected ingredients of the meal

Before

  • Confused on what to do for the top portion

After

  • Added titles to ease the steps

Reflection

While working on this project, I learned not everyone will understand the way of the structure as you would assume. Just providing small details or steps can make usability much easier. It is also important to make sure specific features are present clearly and out so that users can easily find them.

Future Iteration:
If I had more time, I would dive deeper into researching additional features for the app that may help distinguish it from the market. These features would also help add more characteristics. As always, there will be continuous updates needed in the future to ensure overall improvement.
